Meet our governors

Welcome to our Governors page

The governors of the school meet at least twice a term and their guiding work is of great importance to the smooth running of the school even though much of their work is unseen by the public. They are responsible for the school building and grounds, the curriculum in school, the appointing of staff and school financial management and parts of expenditure.

They consult with the head teacher in formal meetings and also through more frequent informal visits to school adopting the role of ‘a critical friend.’

Diversity statement

As a school we recognise that a diversity of thought, voices and perspectives is essential to good governance and the effective running of any organisation. We regularly collect diversity information from our governors and, depending on current data, can use this to:

target recruitment to address gaps in experience and diversity
develop and adapt board practices to ensure full participation
prioritise training and awareness-raising in identified areas
address potential ‘blind spots’ through seeking wider advice and perspectives on current and upcoming opportunities, challenges and risks

However, we are unable to publish this information as it would mean that individual members of our governing body are identifiable.

I became a parent governor in 2022 as I believe the need for partnership between school and parents has never been more apparent or critical to success and I am extremely keen to give something back to ensure the school goes from strength to strength. I have a daughter who attends Belton C of E School and have been incredibly impressed with the school atmosphere and range of opportunities provided. I currently work within the criminal justice system and have held various leadership positions meaning I bring skills in strategic thinking, risk assessment, sound financial management, negotiating, influencing and stakeholder management. I am also a trustee of ACT One which is a local youth theatre group for children.

Dr Roger Light

Co-opted Governor

Hi, I'm Roger light. I became Parent Governor in 2019. I have two boys at Belton C of E school and another two who will attend when they are older, so I am keen to help the school carry on maintaining its good standard. Until recently I was a university lecturer in electronic engineering, and have an interest in STEM subjects. I now work primarily as a software developer.

Mr Nick Threadgill

Chair of Finance & Personnel Committee

Hello, my name is Nick Threadgill and I am the Local Authority appointed governor for Belton C of E School. I have been a governor at the school since 1994. Over this time I have filled a number of different roles on the Governing Body; currently, I am Chair of the Finance & Personnel Committee. Both of my children attended the school and I’m passionate about ensuring that the school continues to provide an excellent learning environment for today’s children. I am a retired Chartered Civil Engineer, my main areas of professional expertise being business improvement, audit, project management and commercial management.

Mrs Denise Boulton

Foundation Governor, Designated governor for Anti-Bullying

I was born in County Durham and went to Houghton-le-Spring Grammar School. I then studied Russian and Italian at the University of Birmingham and lectured at the University of East Anglia for eighteen years. I have lived in Edinburgh where I worked as a fundraiser for Crusaid to raise money to build a hospice and accommodation for drug addicted mothers with children. I worked as a producer for the Edinburgh Music Theatre Company, a pro-am company performing large scale musicals and operas and worked at St Giles’ Cathedral running the shop and restaurant. I have spent time living in Norwich where I ran the Sunday school at St Andrews Church and wrote and produced plays for children. I now live in Belton and my interests are sailing, gardening, theatre, science, the environment and local community. I have two daughters and two grandchildren.

Mrs Emma Wood

Co-opted Governor

Hi, my name is Emma Wood and I became a governor in late 2021. I have two children who attend Belton C of E Primary School and as a parent I think that it is a great school. I was keen to become a governor so I could contribute to the ongoing success and development of the school. I am a Chartered Physiotherapist and Pilates Instructor and run my own business so I hope to be able to bring my knowledge of health and wellbeing and business skills to the board. I am currently Chair of Belton Playgroup Committee so also have experience in helping to lead and make management decisions in an early years setting.
